In January 2001, the Senate President formed the Special Committee on Substance Abuse. The Committee will study how Maryland currently addresses substance abuse, and what legal, social, fiscal and bureaucratic issues bar improvement. Strategies that successfully combat substance abuse will be reviewed by the Committee, and recommendations will be developed to improve how the State copes with substance abuse and its related problems.
