The Committee works to coordinate State efforts to improve the health, education, safety, and economic well-being of children in Maryland. By investigating what factors jeopardize the condition of the State's children, youth, and families, and by identifying what State policies and actions might benefit them, the Committee is able to recommend new laws, regulations and budget priorities to increase children's well-being. Also, the Committee searches out and makes recommendations to remedy any interdepartment gaps, inconsistencies, or inefficiency in services to children and their families; keeps the legislature informed on issues concerning children, youth, and families; and improves public awareness of their special needs.
Authorization for the Committee continues through June 30, 2009 (Code State Government Article, sec. 2-10A-06).
